Generic Bio

Undergraduate degree in History (FL-UL), Master's Degree in the History of the Portuguese Overseas Expansion (FCSH-UNL) and PhD in Modern History (FL-UL), and a lecturer in the Institute of Oriental Studies (FCH-UCP). He currently lectures on the History of India at the Faculty of Letters, University of Lisbon under the auspices of the Asian Studies Consortium (FCH-UCP/FL-UL) and on the e-Master's Program on the History of the Portuguese Empire (FCSH-UNL). He is also a researcher integrated into CHAM (FCSH-UNL) and coordinates the "Economies, agents and mercantile cultures" group. His research interests focus upon the economic and social history of the State of India, in particular the western Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf and neighbouring states in the Modern Age. In recent years, his analysis has focused upon the impact of Islam on the Portuguese Empire, in particular, in India and in Iran (16th to 18th centuries).
