Family Psychology

5 ECTS / Semester / Portuguese
To grasp the epistemological, theoretical and practical foundations of Family Psychology and critically reflect on their pragmatic implications. To analyse and discuss various issues relating to the dialectical process of development of the family as a whole, considering the notions of life cycle, transition (normative and non-normative), crisis and change. To analyse the relationships in the family structure in a developmental and dialectical perspective. To reflect critically on the relationship between the family and other fundamental systems of society. To reflect critically and be able to apply different models for the assessment of family structures and family functioning according to different realities. To reflect on the importance of prevention work with families. To analyse and critically reflect on major research themes in Family Psychology. To apply the knowledge gained to analysis of case studies from a systemic perspective, defining systemic hypotheses that help to clarify the reading. To guide the collection of new information and to outline interventions.
